It is far too long since Chris Foster came to the Goose way back in 2010, so we are really pleased that he was able to come over from Iceland to sing for us tonight.
“Chris Foster merits legend status, one of the very best in the second wave of the Brit folk revival, as important as Martin Carthy, Dick Gaughan and Nic Jones in the way he has modernised and invested traditional songs with inventive guitar arrangements and potent vocal delivery.” Colin Irwin – fROOTS
Chris is soon releasing a new album, “Hadelin”, and here is one of the fab songs from it, The Trees They Are All Bare. Chris is joined on the song by John Kirkpatrick, Bára Grímsdóttir, Amy Dawson, Jackie Oates and Jim Causley.
Chris says: “Ken Stubbs recorded this charming song from George Townshend (1882 – 1967) at Lewes, Sussex in 1960. It paints beautiful word pictures of winter scenes, conjuring up images that you might find in old Christmas cards or woodcut prints. .”
