About the event

With support from Lucy & Hazel and Matt Milton.

We are so delighted to be welcoming Angeline Morrison to the Goose for the first time!

Angeline is a singer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter who explores traditional song with a deep love, respect and curiosity.

She mostly makes music in the genres of wyrd folk and psych folk, her work infused with elements of soul music, literature, ‘60s beat pop sounds, folklore, myth and the supernatural.

With a feral approach, a handmade sonic aesthetic and a belief in the importance of tenderness, Angeline’s original compositions and re-stitchings of traditional songs focus on storytelling and the small things that often go unnoticed.

Following the October 2022 release of The Sorrow Songs: Folk Songs of Black British Experience on Topic Records, this was The Guardian Folk Album of the Year in 2022 and received excellent reviews elsewhere.

The album uses history and imagination to tell stories of UK Black ancestors in the sonic style of UK traditional and folk music.

‘A ground-breaking album.’Folk Radio

‘An authentic, brave folk voice of black British experience.’Tradfolk.co

‘An important, essential folk album.’Americana-UK (9/10)

‘Unequivocally one of the finest, and most important folk albums of this, or indeed, any year.’Folking.com

"Lucy & Hazel are surely the queens of the new vibe of British folk to be emerging from the radical activist left. Folk music just got very exciting!" - Sam Lee

Matt Milton  sings traditional folk and blues songs, and plays guitar, fiddle and banjo. He has played in many folk clubs all over London, and has supported John Kirkpatrick, Andy Irvine and many other well known figures in the folk world.
