Both of them have headlined here many times, in various incarnations/combinations of bands, duos and trios, but this is the first time that they have headlined as a duo, so we are really looking forward to tonight!
We can’t imagine that you need to, but if you really do:
We first came across James Riley when he turned up at a long ago Goose Singaround and played John Martyn‘s Seven Black Roses. Crikey, a few jaws dropped open (including ours!)
Since when – well, let’s just say Verity Sharp on BBC Radio 3 described his spot as “One of my highlights of the year.”
Johns and Nowak are an English acoustic duo who like to have fun with American music; weaving together mandolin and guitar and singing songs of heartache and longing.
Their music is sometimes joyful, sometimes wistful; steeped in the American tradition and all that comes with it – from fiddle tunes to folk songs, from driving instrumentals and gentle ballads; some traditional, some self-penned.
If you don’t want to pay a booking fee, advance tickets are also on sale at The Ivy House bar (for personal callers only).
